Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the European Society for Emergency Nursing (EuSEN), we are pleased to invite you to participate in our upcoming Strategy & Vision Workshop.
During this interactive and forward-looking day, we will reflect on the past, critically assess the present, and collectively shape the future of emergency nursing in Europe. Together, we will define EuSEN’s strategic role towards 2035 and agree on concrete priorities and actions to guide our next phase.

Please note that participants are responsible for arranging and covering their own travel and accommodation expenses. EuSEN is unfortunately not able to provide reimbursement for travel or hotel costs.

09:00 – Opening & Framing
Objectives of the day

The European context and key challenges
09:30 – Phase 1: The Past
Key question: How has emergency nursing evolved across Europe?
Working groups by region/country will create a shared timeline addressing:
- Professional recognition
- Education and training
- Key milestones
- EuSEN’s contribution to date
Output: A shared historical perspective, including success factors and missed opportunities.
10:45 – Phase 2: The Present
Key question: Where are we today — and where is EuSEN today? Themes include:
- Workforce and wellbeing
- Education and certification
- Clinical role and scope of practice
- Collaboration across the acute care pathway
- Research and evidence
- EuSEN’s current positioning
Output: A shared problem analysis and identification of EuSEN’s strengths and areas for development.
Afternoon Programme
13:00 – Phase 3: The Future (2035)
Key questions:
What will emergency nursing in Europe look like in 2035?
What role should EuSEN play?
Mixed stakeholder groups will develop future scenarios and “2035 headlines,” focusing on:
- Identity and role of the emergency nurse
- European standards
- Technology and innovation
- EuSEN as knowledge hub, policy voice, professional network, and education & standards actor
Output: Clear future visions and a defined strategic positioning for EuSEN.
14:45 – Phase 4: Common Ground
Key question: What do we fundamentally agree on?
Expected results:
- Shared values
- Strategic priorities
- Core roles for EuSEN
Examples may include competency frameworks, research collaboration, advocacy, and professional recognition.
16:00 – Phase 5: Action & Commitment
Multinational action groups will focus on:
- Education & certification
- Research & knowledge sharing
- Clinical standards & quality
- Workforce & wellbeing
- Policy & advocacy
- EuSEN organisational strategy & governance
Each group will define short-term objectives, concrete 12–24 month actions, and responsible leads or partners.
